Our Story
As they say, "It's not how you end the journey, but how you get there". If you asked us that as a question, we'd say, "False and True". We believe that everyone should strive to run their own race and enjoy the journey there, but we also know that getting there in a sweet ass ride is just as important. In the case of the hare and the tortoise, the hare just wanted to win, and he lost because he slept too damn long, and the tortoise beat him. However you perceive this story, there is a lot of truth to it. Taking your time getting somewhere is sometimes better than just arriving.
Hi, my name is Wallace Morrison. I created this website as someone who loves Speedsters and Roadsters. Since 2001, I've had a few vehicles like roadsters and cafe racer motorcycles and absolutely love them. Vintage is in my passion for taste. I am currently building my first speedster. I am not an expert of anything by any means, as there is just so much information that no one could ever stop learning. What I am good at however is knowing through experience of errors and success, what has worked for me, and I have a lot of both. I like to enjoy things, and I know others do to, so if there is something that I can help someone with in this area of the industry, I will do my best in doing so. Starting out, I am listing kits, products, and well trusted companies that I believe are good for you. Will my experience be different than yours? Yes. Will you disagree with some of the listed content on here? Yes. Also, might some of your experiences be the same as mine and you agree with the listed content on here? Yes & Yes. I can't appeal to everyone in the world, but what I can do is give the best advice that I can and list products and services that have a good reputation to being of great service. So, let's have some fun!
The Hare and The Tortoise's Significance
The story of the Hare and the Tortoise was a fable by Aesop. We all know the story, but its core lesson was simple, "Slow and steady wins the race." Sometimes you just wanna kick back and enjoy what's around you, and sometimes you just wanna tear up the road. There is a place for everything. On this site, there are two sides when it comes to roadsters and speedsters. As mentioned, there are those that want to just enjoy a nice stroll, and on the other side there are those that want the most their car will give them with as much power and less weight.
THE TORTOISE : THE ROADSTER
Make no mistake about it. Roadster owners will definitely give speedster owners a run for their money, if not just whip them right off of the street. The only major difference is how they're classified. Roadsters are mainly known to keeping their windows and luxury conveniences like cruise control and removeable hardtops, although we'd rather classify those as coupes when they have them on but technically can't since they are removeable. The Mazda Miata is the perfect example of a roadster. It is exactly that and also the bestselling roadster of all time. It is an open soft top two-seater, with manual gearing, and a front engine. I added front engine last because that doesn't matter. A roadster can be front, rear or mid-engine. The big takeaway is that it is an open top, two seat, rear wheel drive and manual. Compared to the tortoise, the roadster like the base Miata, MGs, Triumphs, Austin Healeys, etc., are made to just enjoy life with some sun, to relax in and just enjoy what the road is allowing you to be. Roadsters weren't originally made to race other cars on the road, but there are some that take them to a whole new level adding huge power bands of upwards to 400hp or more, and also track dominant. You can never go wrong with striving for roadster ownership. If you have never had the experience of driving a roadster, take a trip to your local Mazda dealership and see what they have. Test drive one and see why we love them. There is the chance that someone close to you already has access to roadster fun. Having an open mind other than a more HP and/torque mentality is a requirement when getting in one of these creations.
THE HARE : THE SPEEDSTER
If you've never seen a rabbit or hare run then you're missing out. They are extremely fast, and they take off without abandon. Hares are operating on intuition and catching them on foot is very difficult. They are light, quick, and most times incalculable. It takes a special animal to catch a hare on foot. The speedster is the same. You basically take your roadster and lessen the load by removing all the windows and bits that weigh it down. You have the option to remove the AC and heating unit, the radio, the cruise control, the airbags, and other things that you may want to get rid of. Then, although you've lessened the load that makes your new speedster faster, you go one step further and add more power. Less weight, more power, and without the side or front window (however you'll add a windscreen), all of that is coming right at you. Now, although you're doing 45mph, you will feel like you're doing 65+mph with a face full of wind. The idea of a speedster is like that of a cafe racer or chopper. Less weight, more power, extreme lane of fun. The major caveat with a speedster is that of safety, that is, if you're squeamish about not having airbags, cause that's what you're going to do which is no air bags, and very little roll protection. In fact, for pure speedsters, the only safety you'll have is a four- or five-point harness. We're not recommending anyone get rid of their air bags or not to install roll bars. We're just mentioning what's involved in a pure speedster. Our recommendation to those that want to build them a speedster is, if this is your new thing, consider you'll still want a daily. Look...you will have no top now...no windows. You can always put on a rain suit and helmet, because you're now essentially a motorcycle on 4 wheels, so a daily is ideal. You can find a good daily roadster on the market for $3k. Get or keep your car for the speedster and buy or keep your car for a roadster. In any case, you'll have two cool rides.
THE HY-STER
The Roadster and Speedster are minimally different. Although the lines have been blurred a bit in the past and still today, I have tried to differentiate between the two the best I can. However, I do see where you can create a speedster with its stripped-down glory and still be able to add a few luxuries like a sound system and theft deterrent system, thus creating a hybrid-ster (Hy-ster) type car. Now this may have some debatable issues with purists, but I believe a "Hy-ster", can be a valid argument.
